On March 11th Artfront Galleries hosted its inaugural event for 2016. Under the umbrella theme of Urban Evidence II it was the gala opening reception of the Urban Legacy exhibit at the Newark Waterfront Recreation center curated by the multi-talented Jae Quilan. Central to the evening was Artfront Galleries’ presentation to Allison Durham, Executive Manager Newark Housing Authority, for her continued support of the arts and artists in Newark.
Urban Legacy examines the ethical, political, and aesthetic footprints the arts are leaving for the next generation. The exhibit consists of 35 works created by 12 mostly local artists and represent a variety of media: photography, acrylic on canvas, mixed media, digital prints and, sculpture. All of the works shown are for sale with 100% of the proceeds going to the artists.
Urban Legacy runs through April 8, 2016. The Waterfront Recreation Center’s hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Urban Legacy will also be hosting three special events during the exhibition:
