ATLOVE (www.playatlove.com) is a new initiative dedicated to connecting the LGBTQ community, everywhere, to inclusive sports and fitness. As part of our yearlong launch campaign, we are hosting NEWARK@PLAY, a series of events in Northern New Jersey highlighting LGBTQ-centered sports.
PURPOSE ▪ Highlight the benefits of LGBTQ sports and fitness through the stories of amateur athletes ▪ Make LGBTQ sports and fitness more visible, accessible, and appealing to the community ▪ Inspire conversations on the importance of fitness as part of LGBTQ health and ways in which every LGBTQ person, in their own way, can fit fitness into their self-care ▪ Build infrastructure for local LGBTQ sports initiatives
EVENTS Photography Exhibition- in collaboration with Art Front Galleries and Clique Photography, we are presenting a photo-exhibit of amateur LGBTQ athletes during May 2020 at The Pride Center in Newark.
Tennis Tournament- we are hosting the Newark Open, the first-ever New Jersey tournament on the international GLTA (Gay and Lesbian Tennis Association) Tour, at the West Orange Tennis Club on Memorial Day Weekend, with a player banquet and other activities in Newark.
Conversations- we will host conversations on the benefits and challenges of fitness; the importance of diversity and inclusion in health and wellness; and fitness as a core part of LGBTQ health.
Newark LGBTQ Sports+Fitness Day- we are exploring a summer one-day event with exhibition games, clinics, and fitness activities, including LGBTQ sports teams (football, soccer, rugby, etc.) from the region, and demonstrations of cheer, tennis, yoga, kickboxing, and karate.
OPPORTUNITIES During the course of NEWARK@PLAY we anticipate reaching tens of thousands of amateur athletes and community members; hosting multiple events; and creating a legacy of better health and wellness for the LGBTQ community.
We are seeking sponsors (financial, in-kind, product) and partners (collaborations on programming and outreach), for the whole series or specific activities, to make this series as successful and impactful as we can.
